Program Description Sr. Minors are made up of Pee Wee age and 1st year Bantam age players who play a competitive House schedule with a once per week practice, led by DYHA travel coaches, and once per week game. Sr. Minors also participate in the WestConn Hockey League, a "travel light" experience with several games throughout the season scheduled against other local programs that have included Stamford, Rye, Shelton, and Ridgefield. All players in the program will be placed on a team post a 2 week evaluation period to ensure that teams are well balanced with players of several abilities. The program, depending on overall player registration, will have 4 to 6 teams. The goal of the program is to provide all players the opportunity to continue in hockey regardless of skill or pursuit of other interests at the teenage years. The goal of Sr. Minor is to continue skill development but also to allow players to continue to have fun playing the greatest game in a low stress environment. Sr. Minor is open to both boys and girls.
Teams will typically carry between 15 players. Qualified parents with hockey knowledge are requested to run the benches during games. Games are full ice, change on the fly with tag up offsides and only light body contact. All players will be required to attend checking / body contact session during the 1st part of the season. Sr. Minors participate in Super Sunday which includes a playoff run at the end of the season towards crowing a Sr. Minor champion in early March.
